Football, the national sport of England and a great way to stay fit and be part of a team. Football leagues exist across Sheffield at every level from juniors right through to seniors and participation in football is huge. Joining a football team is a great way of making new friends and becoming part of a team. Women’s football is growing at a rapid rate in the UK< especially following the success of the women’s team at the World Cup.

With the option to play indoor or outdoor, and 5-a-side through to the full 11-a-side game, there are lots of options to play football depending on how much time you can commit. It’s pretty easy to get started with not much kit required and practicing couldn’t be easier. All you need is a ball and a wall or a set of goal posts and you’re away.

Health benefits

The main health benefits of playing football are around increased aerobic capacity and improvements to cardiovascular health. Running at intensity for 90 minutes requires a high level of stamina and been able to go from walking to sprinting on a regular basis means you need to be able to recover quickly. Other benefits include lowering body fat, improving muscle tone, building strength, improving coordination and increasing self-confidence and self-esteem.
